DO-HO SUH
Do-Ho Suh is an artist who gets more reputation abroad. He
got himself acknowledged internationally through his artworks,
which were showed in La Biennale di Venezia (Korean Pavilion
and 'Plateau of Humankind', 2001), Whitney Museum of American
Art at Philip Morris(2001), the Museum of Modern Art, New
York (2001), NTT ICC in Tokyo(1999), Serpentine Gallery in
London (2002), and Seattle Art Museum in Seattle (2002).
The Artsonje Center has had a number of exhibitions of both
international and domestic artists who becomes rapidly distinguished
in their field. Do-Ho Suh's one-man exhibition is not only
the most significant one among the art exhibitions held by
the Artsonje Center for the year 2003, but also the very first
one of the artist, who is getting internationally renowned.
Suh's solo exhibition introduces his artworks such as Floor,
Some/One, Doormat; Welcome, Who Am We?, which investigate
the identity of human beings in the modern times, who are
forced to go through various cultures, as well as the relationships
between an individuals and groups that Suh takes as the major
theme for his art works.
Also, this exhibition will include his new work, Paratrooper,
which sends us a general message like a bond between individuals.
Suh's exhibition will be an opportunity to view both his representative
and new works altogether.
Suh was born in Seoul in 1962 and graduated from the art
school and the graduate school of Seoul National University
before moving to the United States. He got his BFA degree
from the Rhode Island School of Design and studied at the
School of Art of Yale University for MFA work. He is currently
living in New York.
